The Project:
Step 1: Collecting Oral Histories
We have currently interviewed six people with connections to the Sugar Factory and more interviews are being scheduled. See podcasts of the recordings here!
Step 2: Writing a book for 3rd grade classes
The 20 page book on the Longmont Sugar Beet Factory is currently being illustrated. The book is about 3 friends who time travel back in time to learn more about the factory. Upon its completion, it will be available for use by 3rd grade classes.
Step 3: Community Involvement
I will be presenting my book and project to various elementary schools as well as other Longmont organizations such as the St. Vrain Historical Society and the Kiwanis Club of Longmont. I will also be encouraging other students to learn about their local histories. Visit my blog to learn more about it!
